During his art education at the Seni Institute in Denpasar, Doglas had initially focused on abstract expressionism, but his roots soon led him to inspiring imaginary landscape scenarios, settings that transcend reality. These images are related to his native village, the idyllic Karangasem (Indonesia), a place known for its beautiful, vast fields and seascapes.
This artist has contemplatively looked at that environment and his horizon seems to have been infinite. Doglas's artworks take the viewer to a place where the limitations of the naked eye do not exist, sometimes in a similar way to that of satellite photos. At other times, his brush seems to have found its 'home' closer, such as at a sunset. The maker is apparently playing with an imaginary telescope. Zooming in and out. In the most abstract extremity of that zoom he brings the viewer closer to his own imagination; there where one can only appreciate the painting if they can distill a feeling from the expressive colours.
Colorful layers, suggestions of nature, take the viewer to distant places and at the same time the work has an introspective character.
