Project Description

Poseidon & Amphitrite

Background information
Impressive reverse glass painting with mythological scene. Made in Brussels in the 1930s.
The image is hand painted in black, blue, brown and silver. In addition to paint, the artist also incorporated gold leaf and copper into the image. When the glass panel is illuminated, the light reflects beautifully on the metallic surface.
The depiction is derived from Greek mythology; it depicts the god Poseidon and his wife Amphitrite in their carriage carried by sea creatures.
The work is 1 of a series of 5 works. For 15 years, the five panels decorated the famous club “Jimmy Woo” in Amsterdam.
