"White lions are something else… First seen in the wild in the Timbavati region in South Africa in 1938, then almost gone extinct but managed to survive and are around again since 2004 up to present day. White lions are not albino, but a color mutation of the South African lions. Interestingly, their white colored fur does not seem to be a disadvantage to their survival. I managed to get close to this beautiful and charismatic white male lion and his light-colored eyes checked mine through the lens. An amazing magical moment of connection was caught on camera. This lion is really ‘the special one’ to me. " Location: South Africa

    “Witte leeuwen zijn iets bijzonders…
    Ze werden voor het eerst in het wild gezien in de Timbavati-regio in Zuid-Afrika in 1938, waren toen bijna uitgestorven, maar wisten te overleven en zijn sinds 2004 tot op de dag van vandaag weer te vinden. Witte leeuwen zijn geen albino’s, maar een kleurmutatie van de Zuid-Afrikaanse leeuwen. Interessant genoeg lijkt hun witte vacht geen belemmering te zijn voor hun overleving.
    Ik wist dichtbij deze prachtige en charismatische witte mannetjesleeuw te komen en zijn lichtgekleurde ogen keken me door de lens aan. Een geweldig magisch moment van verbondenheid werd vastgelegd op camera. Deze leeuw is echt ‘de speciale’ voor mij.”
