Daniella Wesseling, (1978) graduated in 2006 from the academy for art and design Sint Joost in Breda.
According to her, the mind is limitless and the body lives through limitation. Since childhood, Daniella has been fascinated by the (survival) power of the mind and the relationship between body and mind. The power of the imagination, storytelling and endurance of the mind are visible in her work.
Stories are stored in the body, the mind interprets them. She investigates the relationship between the banal and the 'big stories' of man. The emphasis here is on the feminine aspect. The cycle of life and death, which she experiences as feminine, can be felt in her work. The desire to see a bigger story, perhaps the soul.
The experiment is important in her choice of materials. By working with multiple transparent layers or using flesh to create an image of an animal, she can show the spirit in matter. The empty space also participates in the painting, by playing with the multiple layers the images seem to move.
