Jef Poldervaart comes from the advertising and fashion world. He writes, paints, makes music, directs and photographs. Jef Poldervaart likes to mix the various disciplines and is working on a multi-media project in which all these art forms can be found. Jef Poldervaart's photography seems like a series of frozen images from films that have never been made. The story of those movies? He leaves that to the viewer – a challenge to put the imagination to work.
His artworks are often romantic, but certainly also sensual photos give the women who pose for him (actresses and top models who, in addition to their commercial work, also want something creative with their talent) a certain power. They are in complete control of the situation. The spectator may look, but that's all.
Many of his photos radiate a nostalgic glow of that special and highly visual period 1925 - 1950 in Paris and Berlin. However, the current images have been transformed to the current zeitgeist with modern techniques.
The photos of Jef Poldervaart consist of many layers. The first edits take place in the computer, followed by all kinds of post-processing with paint, oil and chalk on canvas and paper. He often gives his work a textual memory or message, fragments and words that claim their role in the overall picture.
Jef Poldervaart's work is receiving increasing international attention.
