Biography

On April 9, 2005, the Netherlands said goodbye to a living work of art, Anton Heyboer.

A man known for his eccentric lifestyle. He, who had a relationship with 5 women and shared life with them as in a commune. A special house, where there was no shower, but six people who lived in harmony with each other and complemented each other. A busy environment full of details, each with its own story. A museum in itself. Not everyday to say the least and full of rituals: “not all residents were allowed to leave the house at the same time, because according to the man of the house, the spirit of the territory should not be left to its own devices”. He was also afraid of theft, there were so many paintings that you could see from the outside.

Anton Heyboer is eighty-one years old and his legacy counted no less than eighty thousand visual works! An extremely prolific artist. Paintings, collages, etchings, sculptures…Apparently fragile expressions, almost vulnerable, but in its open-mindedness it is so physically created that its autonomous power radiates directly from every gesture. A childish force perhaps, chaotic even, but not doubtful. A statement on all fronts. Free.

Major museums in the Netherlands and abroad have one or more works by Anton Heyboer in their collection. Exhibitions of his work are held to this day.
