Do you know Machiel van der Aar?
Artist Machiel van der Aar (1970) has been making objects since his youth and was thus introduced to many different materials at an early age. He makes toys, models or objects that are not for sale in the store himself. Only during the pandemic did he find time to fully reflect on his future as a sculptor and the final form that his work should take. All sculptures are handmade to scale in clay, then digitally scanned and reproduced in large format using the highest quality 3D resin printer. This process is known as “reverse engineering”.
Machiel's fascination with vintage toys from his youth is echoed in his sculptures. Adult social topics are reflected in a youthful and playful way, challenging the viewer to be a child again.
