Frank 't Hoen has been active since 2003 with exhibitions in and around Amsterdam. Frank 't Hoen is fascinated by women. He searches for beautiful, aesthetic images of women that he can make the subject of his work.
In an interview he said the following: 'I think women are beautiful, that's why women are often the direct object in my works. Women have something magical, pure and fragile but can also be powerful at the same time. The face is very important to me. A face can express all kinds of moods and emotions. There are often a thousand other faces in every face.”
Painting is my way of expressing this love for women in images and colours. I don't paint every day, but always with the same skill and passion. My work always has a touch of punk, mixed with pop art and a kind of erotic minimalism. The shape, appearance, posture and brushstrokes are very dynamic. Often with a large dose of 'Huzun', which in Turkish stands for a wistful longing for the past.
Still, I don't want to put too much weight on my work. “I just make what I like!” In my opinion, therefore, art does not always have to have an explanation or message. An image or text simply has to appeal to someone for whatever reason.
